Suncoast Charities for Children

thunder by the bay sponsors charity

Suncoast Charities for Children provides direct financial support to six local non-profit agencies in support of programs and services to children, teens, and adults with special needs throughout the Sarasota, Manatee, Desoto, and Charlotte County areas.

These agencies include Children First, The Florida Center for Early Childhood, The Haven, Special Olympics of Sarasota, Inclusion Revolution, The Miracle League of Manasota, Oak Park School, St. Mary Academy, Venice Challenger Baseball, and Loveland Center.

The financial support provided directly to these agencies, is made possible by various special event fundraisers held throughout the year and generous donations.

Here are just a few examples of how your support made an impact:

  • 335 At-risk preschool children will receive 4,405 nutritious meals to help fight childhood hunger at Children First
  • 120 Children will benefit from new classroom materials and supplies, strengthening their learning environment now and for years to come and 80 Vulnerable Families will receive essential items like diapers, bus passes, and personal care supplies to ease daily burdens at The Florida Center For Early Childhood.
  • 180 Individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities will gain life skills, independence, and community connection through enhanced programs and outings at Loveland Center.
  • 66 preschool students can now enjoy an outdoor play village at The Haven, which provides an engaging social, emotional, and dramatic play experience for students of varying abilities. By immersing themselves in imaginative scenarios, students can explore their emotions and develop empathy while interacting with their peers. This play village was constructed in loving memory of Rory MacConnell, long time chair of Thunder By The Bay’s Motorcycle Charity Ride.
  • 20 individuals with physical and/or cognitive challenges will now feel welcomed and accepted during one week at Summer Camp Shriver for Special Olympics Florida athletes. This inclusive camp builds self-confidence, develops social skills, and fosters a sense of belonging in the community.
  • 12 teenagers at Venice Challenger Baseball with physical and/or cognitive challenges will be able to enjoy a one-week overnight Summer camp for the first time.
  • 81 Students with developmental disabilities will now have access to an audiometer for on-site hearing screenings and diagnostic assessments at St. Mary Academy.
  • 100 Students with intellectual and developmental disabilities will gain greater access to learning through adaptive communication and visual support tools at Oak Park School.
  • 20 Individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities will gain access to assistive and sensory support tools that reduce anxiety and foster independence on the job at Inclusion Revolution.
  • 165 Differently abled children, teens, and adults will step onto the baseball field with pride in new team uniforms.
